Worship Leading

Leading WorshipMany of us have found ourselves volunteering for the Church because of our talents and heart for God. No matter how we individually became new Christians, there are a few of us who want to use our talents for God, grow our faith, and, in the process, will find ourselves leading worship! The problem is this: although there is formal training for this available, many (like myself) didn’t go to college for worship leading or church music.

Looking at my own story, since I didn’t get this formal education, I also didn’t get much direction. Our focus in this area will be in the music leading topic. I have learned some things, as many of you have, that we can share together. In this section, we will tackle topics such as:

  • Music Planning
  • What I wish I knew when I started
  • Worship Team Building
  • Tools to use for worship
  • Musical instrument choices and reviews
  • Flock concepts for leading your team
  • and other topics that we may or may not have thought of.

Leading music in church is a gift

From the time I started playing on a worship team till now, when I’m leading it, I have always felt blessed. Before moving on to the next pages, please feel free to let us know of your own experiences as well as topics you’d like to discuss. You can do this by commenting below. Thank you and God Bless You.

First Stop: Things I wish I knew as a new worship leader

  1. I never went to school for this either, but we can never let that hold us back from following God’s calling on our lives! The church is the Body of Christ…the people who have put their faith in the gospel message all fulfilling a role according to their unique callings, not the building or anything called the clergy or laity, committees, teams, or anything like that. The first churches were held in the homes of fellow believers, where all fellowshiped, sang songs, and worshiped according to their unique callings. No degrees. No formal teaching from other humans. Just a calling by the Creator of the Universe, and the strength to walk in it. It’s the same Creator that called you and me, and is giving us the strength to walk in it, degree or no. 🙂

    1. Exactly! I think we get too caught up with credentials. I think being called by God is the highest credential…and most humbling. I love the calling, and how God uses me in it!

  2. “Where 2 or 3 are gathered together there I am in the midst of them. ” I find this scripture sound advice, and it takes the pressure of being perfect away. God desires that we worship him. Listen to him and if he is calling he will take care of the details.

    1. That is so true! However, it’s one thing if the worship leader understands that. It’s another when the whole team stands firm in that truth. Aiming for the latter, we can do incredible things for His kingdom!
